Dorset Cancer Centre FUNdraiser!

Dorset Cancer Centre FUNdraiser!

A week this Saturday (6 Dec) The Gander will be a holding a fundraising event in aid of the Dorset Cancer Centre. After being approached by a student nurse who has been working in the cancer units at both Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals, who wanted to put on an all-dayer to raise funds for her workplace, we have spent the last couple of months arranging and re-arranging bands, and trying to raise awareness for the event. Judging by the number of confirmed attendees on the Facebook event page it looks like being rather well attended – a full house is looking likely which is excellent news!

Every penny of the door money will be going to the Dorset Cancer Centre, and we hope to be raising loads more cash through an exciting array of prizes in the raffle, plus random offers of kindness and impromptu donations. Before a little more info about who’s playing, we’d like to issue a plea to anyone and everyone to offer donations towards the raffle. From a box of chocolates to a brand new Fender Stratocaster – anything will be gratefully accepted. Anyone willing to donate can contact us through tone@honeyberecords or tel. 07903674029.

The original line-up has been affected somewhat due to a broken arm (Jay – Toupe) and a broken wrist (Tim – Dildano), but we’ve now beefed up the bill to eleven acts, and two dj troupes. Kicking off with doors at 2pm, the delicious Language, Timothy! will be opening up the live proceedings, as well as carrying the dj duties ‘til early evening. Then, in rough order we will be welcoming to the stage an eclectic array of quality live acts - Creepythinguy, Grant Sharkey (stand-up set & compere), Yaaard, A+E Line, Blind Voyeurs, Deltorers, Rowse, Dickie Beacon and The Travel Fox, Dutch Husband and Animal Talent Show. The evening/late night tunes will be supplied by Team Betika - expect seamless 12” mixes of classic 80s disco. Maybe.

Clearly, the main aim of this event is to raise awareness, and ultimately cash for equipment for the Dorset Cancer Centre. The fact that this will be done whilst a venue full of happy people enjoy the music and fantastic atmosphere that only this kind of event can achieve, makes it a gig not to be missed. Many local stores have already donated fantastic prizes for the raffle, and the bands will all be finding perfect Christmas present fodder to also tempt you. We urge you to come and give generously. This looks like being one of the local events of the year.
